Printmaking Supplies

Printmaking, not really new but revisiting a technique. I haven’t created any printmaking pieces since college and I have to teach the technique to my elementary school students. The text example that they have is the crayon version where you color on paper different colors five or more and then you put a layer of black crayon on top. Place a stencil down and scratch away the black to make the etching. We could do this project with or without the stencil. The students can do their own type of drawing. So I was thinking low on supplies. Can I scrap together some supplies and make our own gel plates from scratch so I went onto Walmart plus on Amazon to see some pricing to see how much:5 x 7 or 9x10 range $8-$40. Anything larger than 12 x 14 $60 -$100 permanent Geo plate 5 x 7 1 box Knox gelatin unflavored + one 6oz glycerin. 1box contains four packets and 6 ounces of glycerin with 1/3 hot water. so I bought three boxes which is 12 packs +12 packs with three bottles of 6 ounce glycerin and I use a 16 inch baking pan as my mold and 1 cup of hot water. We’ll see what the four hours from now wee see what happens and I will have a pretty large gel plate.
